Have you ever wanted to experience what it would be like to visit Willy Wonka’s Factory? A wonderland where delectable treats of all types are created fresh daily for us to enjoy? Well you may not need to wait for your Golden Ticket – simply visit Sloan’s Ice Cream at its first California location in San Diego.
This past weekend while we were shopping at UTC Mall we stopped in at this new dessert dreamland – it is a treat for all of the senses and especially the palette. I thought Sloan’s was only an ice cream shop, but it is that and so much more! Sloan’s offers freshly made fudge, cookies, brownies, create-your-own cookiewiches, and 34 flavors of homemade ice cream. As if all this wasn’t enough, Sloan’s also has a bulk candy wall, chocolate covered apples, stuffed animals, fun gifts, and homemade doggie treats available. A final unique feature inside the shop is Sloan’s magical glass bathroom – you’ll have to visit to see for yourself what I’m talking about.
Sloan’s started in Florida in 1999 and this San Diego shop is the first location outside of Florida. Let’s make sure Sloan’s gets a warm California welcome – maybe more franchise locations will debut soon!
Here’s a sampling of what is waiting for you at Sloan’s:
- Homemade ice cream: Samples are available which is great. There are lots of unique flavors that are made fresh with the finest ingredients. I had a small in a cup which is actually 2 mini scoops. The flavors I decided to try were “Richard’s Riot” (coffee ice cream with chocolate chunks) and “Raspberry Chocolate Chunk”. Both were delicious!
- Irresistible aromas & treats: Freshly baked waffle cones, cookies, and brownies are just some of the scents wafting in the air. There is something for every sweet tooth — homemade fudge, chocolate covered apples, and cookies in addition to the ice cream.
- Over-the-top décor: Lots of pink everywhere and there are twinkling chandeliers throughout. The décor also includes a unique Sloan’s coat-of-arms, a moving train, and a festive mural on the ceiling. The magical glass bathroom is a trademark feature – it has even been nominated for awards!
If you’re a follower of my blog, you may have realized that I LOVE ICE CREAM! Many of my “Yummy for the Tummy” posts have featured ice cream. What can I say? It’s the perfect treat! The trick for me is to order small portions whenever possible. This way I can enjoy my favorite flavors without too much guilt.
So if you’re wanting to feel like a “kid in a candy store” and happen to be near the UTC mall in San Diego, be sure to stop by Sloan’s — where everything is “Made in Wonderland”!
