A visit to the “Happiest Place on Earth” in Anaheim, California would not be complete without buying some souvenirs. The Disneyland Resort has many shopping locations, both inside the theme parks and at the Downtown Disney District. Two shops at Downtown Disney – Build-A-Bear Workshop and Ridemakerz – offer customized souvenirs and here’s how you can bring them home.

BUILD-A-BEAR WORKSHOP

Chances are good that you’ve heard of Build-A-Bear – especially of you are a parent, aunt/uncle, or grandparent. Build-A-Bear Workshop has locations in over 40 states in the U.S. (including Washington, D.C.) and international locations in 14 countries. You can also find a fun shopping experience at the Build-A-Bear online store, including web exclusives.

At Downtown Disney there is a two-story Build-A-Bear which offers the traditional stuffed animal creation and adoption experience plus some bears and accessories that are exclusive to the Anaheim, California location.

One option for a customized souvenir from the Disneyland Resort is bringing home a stuffed bear or Disney-inspired outfit(s) that are exclusive to this Build-A-Bear Workshop. Available only at the Anaheim workshop is the Downtown Disney Minnie Mouse Bear and the Downtown Disney 60th Anniversary Bear. Similar to other locations, prices at the Anaheim Build-A-Bear begin at $25.00 to create and adopt a stuffed friend.

If you have a child in your life who already has a Build-A-Bear friend, you may want to bring home some of the special Disneyland 60 outfits or Mickey/Minnie Disneyland outfits which include Mickey ears. Also, this Anaheim location has a wider selection in-store of Disney clothing (including Princesses and Star Wars) than other Build-A-Bear locations.

On a trip to Downtown Disney this past October, I bought a Daisy Girl Scout outfit and some accessories for my 5 year old niece. There was an in-store promotion and I received a $10 gift card for a future visit with a minimum purchase. Note: Build-A-Bear does not offer Disneyland Annual Passholder discounts.

If you are planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort with your family, you may want to consider a visit to the Downtown Disney Build-A-Bear Workshop for some unique options and customized souvenirs.

RIDEMAKERZ

You may have only heard of Ridemakerz if you’ve visited Downtown Disney. There are a couple of other locations besides the one in California and the Ridemakerz online store. What is Ridemakerz? It’s a similar concept to Build-A-Bear except for the car and remote control enthusiast where you can “chooze”, build, and customize your ride. Similar to the online store, prices at the Anaheim Ridemakerz begin at $29.00 to create your ride, with additional costs for the remote control (R/C) package.

Ridemakerz offers many specialty cars, including licensed models featuring Disney Cars characters and comic book/super hero-inspired cars. Another option for a customized souvenir from the Disneyland Resort is bringing home a ride from Ridemakerz. At the Downtown Disney location, there is at least one special Anaheim edition which is exclusive to this Ridemakerz.

To celebrate Disneyland’s 60th Birthday, Ridemakerz is featuring 2 limited edition Disneyland 60 car bodies (RZ Rod & RZ Rascal). These were still available in late January, but since these are limited editions they will only be around while supplies last. Another limited edition/Downtown Disney exclusive is a co-branded Disneyland 60 & Ridemakerz backpack to carry your ride.

When we went to Ridemakerz at Downtown Disney with our 9 year old grandson in late January 2016, he custom-built a Disneyland 60 RZ Rascal. He used many of the basic/included parts and chose minimal customization. Our out-the-door cost, including the remote control upgrade and basic batteries set, was about $90 (we had a coupon). Note: Ridemakerz does honor the Disneyland Annual Passholder discount if you happen to be a Passholder and don’t have a coupon. Completed cars are not allowed inside the theme parks, but Ridemakerz will hold your car for you to pick up later.

So like Build-A-Bear, if you are planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort with your family, you may want to consider a visit to the Downtown Disney Ridemakerz for some unique options and customized souvenirs.

Build-A-Bear and Ridemakerz are popular destinations for birthday parties. If you’re planning a group trip, you should call ahead to see if advance reservations are required. Also, like the Disneyland Resort, the Downtown Disney District (including Build-A-Bear and Ridemakerz) is open year-round.

Are Build-A-Bear friends and Ridemakerz rides popular in your house? Will you be bringing home any of these customized souvenirs on your next trip to Disneyland?
