My Sunday nights are spent at Downton Abbey…can you relate? If you’re a fan of the show, then you know there is only one new episode left for those of us in the U.S. Each week I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the final season of this Masterpiece show on PBS and I know exactly where I’ll be on Sunday, March 6th at 9:00 p.m. — watching the finale of Downton Abbey!

From the beginning, Downton Abbey has captured the hearts of its fans and followers…the characters are amazing (both upstairs and downstairs), the haute couture fashion from the time period is exquisite, and the writing is intelligent and witty. The twists and turns of the plot lines during the six seasons have been quite an adventure.

Thinking about the upcoming finale got me thinking about ideas for a Downton Abbey themed get together…whether for a finale viewing party, or an afternoon tea, or a birthday party. Naturally, I went to Pinterest to see what ideas are out there already and there are several! Today’s post is a summary of a few of the ideas I found…can’t wait to pin these to my Downton Abbey board on Pinterest and put some into action for a finale viewing party.

First, if you’re having an official party, you may want to send out some invitations. Other printables will help transform your event into a special soirée.

Then, to get into the proper character, you’ll want to create a new name for yourself using a Downton Abbey Name Generator. At your get together, you can also help your guests create new Downton Abbey (DA) names.

Of course no party would be complete without food. Some menu ideas include deviled eggs, cucumber stacks, scones, Earl Grey shortbread cookies, Madeleine cookies, and tea. If you’re interested in imbibing in style, consider serving some Downton Abbey inspired cocktails.

Depending on the size of your party, you may want to have a photo booth with some simple props.  Also, a Downton Abbey Trivia Game  or Bingo Game could add to the festivities.

There are several more ideas I found on various sites. Here are some you may want to check-out:

Hosting a Downton Abbey themed party may not be your cup of tea, so instead you may want to go shopping for some DA inspired treasures and trinkets. The PBS.org website has a nice collection of gifts…for yourself or another Downton Abbey fan. Here are some of my favorites from the PBS online store:

Cheese Markers (Gouda, Bleu, Brie or Stilton) – “This set of four cheese markers designed as antique forks let one label each variety of cheese for guests, and add a charming touch to a picnic or elevenses.”

Downton Abbey Tea – “A heartfelt cup of Plum Pudding Tea is the perfect send-off to six seasons of love, death, war, success and emotional turmoil. The Crawleys, with the support of their loyal staff, have not only survived but prospered to the delight of us all. So bottoms– and pinkies — up as we say farewell to Downton Abbey.”

Bell Pull Ornament – “Capture the beauty of Christmas at Downton Abbey with this officially-licensed ornament. Whether you spent your days upstairs or down, the ringing of bells was a constant sound. This replica of the pull bells used by the family and staff of Downton Abbey that will help you ring in the holidays in classic style year after year.”

Lady Mary Hand Fan – “The Lady Mary hand fan lends a hint of charm and style to any occasion. Perfect for gift giving or as party favors for your next Downton Abbey gathering.”

What’s A Weekend? Mug – “Fans around the world have fallen in love with the quick wit and pithy quotes of Lady Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham. Perhaps her most famous quote–“What is a Weekend?” – is a particular fan favorite. Show your love for Lady Violet with this mug–a must have for any Downton Abbey fan.”

What will you miss most about Downton Abbey? I’ll miss watching how all the characters interact with each other and Lady Violet’s witty quotes. After the show’s finale on March 6th, I’ll have to keep the Downton Abbey spirit alive with my phone’s ringtone (the Downton Abbey theme song) and hope that the rumors about a Downton Abbey movie on the big screen come true!

What are some of your favorite Downton Abbey memories? Who are your favorite characters? What will you miss most about Downton Abbey?
