Hand-tossed dough, carefully-placed fresh ingredients, and baked to perfection in piping hot ovens – there’s no need to travel all the way to the East Coast to find a mouth-watering New York style thin-crust pizza. San Diego is home to its own Bronx Pizza – located at 111 Washington Street (between 1st Ave & 3rd Ave) – a pizzeria where you can buy pizza by the slice or a whole pie or a calzone, just be sure to bring cash or plan on visiting the ATM inside. Up to 18 different kinds of pizza are offered daily. Or you can request a custom whole pie.
Since 1997, Bronx Pizza has been serving up yummy pizzas from its store-front located in the central San Diego neighborhoods of Hillcrest & Mission Hills. When you step inside, it’s like walking into a time capsule of Bronx New York history, photos, and memorabilia. Every room of the dining area is a tribute to the people and places of the Bronx, plus photos of celebrities who have eaten at Bronx Pizza through the years. Recently a mural was added that looks like a subway train stopped at a station.
This pizzeria is uniquely San Diego and is on my list of places you should check-out if you haven’t already.
